Are you new to knitting or crochet? Do you feel intimidated or overwhelmed when walking into a yarn store? Are there too many options? What should I use for what project?

Yarn 101 is a discussion designed to give you an overview of yarn and help you understand the weights andd properties for yarns. Knowing this information will help you choose yarn for your next project. We will talk about fiber content, yarn weights and uses, yarn measurements and finally we will walk you through reading a yarn label.

Knitting 103: Knit Striped Mittens (1 of 2)

You’ve learned how to knit a hat.  Now build on those skills and knit a bulky, striped pair of mittens!

In this class you will learn two basic increase stitches to create a thumb gusset, how to place stitches on a yarn holder and how to pick those stitches back up - all to create a pair of adorable striped mittens.

 

2  - two hour sessions from 2-4 pm - Sundays, February 10 & 24, 2019.

 

Materials  available for purchase at Spry Whimsy

- Mitten yarn kit (you choose a base color and stripe colors) - required from SW

- US 10.5 double pointed needles

- US 9 double pointed needles

- 1 locking stitch marker

- 5 regular or locking stitch markers

- tape measure, ruler or gauge swatch measuring tool

- tapestry needle

- scissors or snips

 

We don’t require you to purchase all additional materials at our shop for this class, although we appreciate it!  If you already have items at home, please bring them.

Crochet 101 (1 of 2)

No previous experience required.

Hooks and ladders: Intro to Crochet

Learn the basic stitches, and how to read both written and diagrammed patterns.  Learn how to choose the right hook and yarn for your project. See what crochet does better than knitting, and vice versa.

Need: Worsted weight yarn, crochet hook sized G or H

Felted Flower/ Decorative Arts Combo Class

Learn how to make a wet felted flowerin the morning for the first part of your creative day in Stoughton. Students will learn the basics of working with dyed wool rovings, and the basics of how wool felts. In the process you will make two wet felted flowers.

After class you will walk twos door over and take a class on the decorative arts at Studio 184 (Decorative Arts class sold by Studio 184. Contact Cindy at 608-728-4112)

In this class you will learn how to knit in the round using double pointed needles, measure gauge, change color to make stripes, read a pattern, and decrease.
